Grasshopper - This phenomenal Rolex Day Date 1803 from 1974 is just uber cool. The white gold case is strong, retaining straight and well defined lugs and doesn't show much wear from age over the last 48 years. The grass green Stella dial is well extremely preserved and shows a beautiful glossy surface set with 8 diamond- and 2 baguette markers. The color is very vibrant, stands in great contrast with the white gold case and diamonds. Even though this color looks great on yellow gold it just pops on white gold. The tone of the green varies depending on lighting, under direct sunlight we can see a beautiful and vibrant lime green. When assessing the rarity and value of Stella dials, there are two main drivers, one is the color of the dial and one is the metal of the watch the dial is cased in. Assuming that approximately 70% of all Day Dates are produced in Yellow gold, we can only imagine how few examples in white metals have been produced. As a consequence it is safe to say that special dials for white gold are rare and in the case of Stella dials, extremely rare.
