1988 Rolex Day Date Green Stella Dial 'Khanjar' Ref. 18038
Sultan - in the Vintage Watch world the Omani Khanjar has undoubtedly become an iconic symbol for Middle Eastern Royalty. The history goes far back to the time when the Sultan Qaboos Said Bin Said was a collector of fine watches himself and began commissioning watches bearing the Royal dagger emblem on the dial. Given the generosity of the Sultan these watches were used as give aways showcasing the pride of the Sultanate. The watch offered here, is such a Royal timepiece. This mint condition 18038 from the late 1980s is in mint condition bearing a sharp and fat case and beautifully bevelled and well defined lugs. The bracelet is equally sharp and does not show much wear from age. The original and rare Green Stella dial with baton indexes is in near flawless condition and still retaining its gloss over the years. The dial bears a red 'Crowned Khanjar' emblem on the dial at 6 o' clock. This emblem represents the Sultan and his family. The contrast of the red logo on the green dial is mesmerizing given the relief print seen at magnification. The print is perfect and hasn't deteriorated or faded over time like many have. The fact that the Khanjar emblem is found on an original and mint condition Stella dial makes this watch extremely rare. We haven't seen many in the past and we are sure that the future will also not be bringing more of these as they are disappearing into the collections of discerned and sophisticated collectors. dials we have had so far. It is a real pleasure to offer this watch for sale.
