A small number of the early black dials had a production flaw which resulted in the color change of the initially beige sub dials. This phenomenon was discovered by Osvaldo Patrizzi after whom these dials are named today. The value and desirability of these dials lies in the darkness, shade and consistency  of the discolorations. Further the phenomenon of the Patrizzi dial is known to appear only until the mid 90s as the production fault was probably rectified by Rolex. This very example dates back to 1994\/1995 and has a mint black Tritium dial with evenly aged dark brown sub dials. The aging is perfect and creates a very attractive look. The reference 18048 stands for a yellow gold Day Date with single quickset movement and factory diamond bezel. It was a serial production watch from 1978 until 1989 but to be honest, we don't see many of these around. The case remains sharp with well defined lugs and clear numbers. The factory white gold bezel is also in excellent condition and looks stunning on the contrasting yellow gold case. This reference also by default comes with a diamond dial. This very example does bear a diamond dial too but not just any diamond dial. This watch is fitted with a insanely rare original Stella diamond dial. The color is to die for, a vibrant pastel Peach color like we haven't seen before. Stella SA, the company which was manufacturing the Stella dials for Rolex (and which was bought by Rolex later) used to mix the lacquer for each dial separately hence some colors are very unique plus some of the dials have developed unique hues over time.  The surface of the dial is is super glossy and hardly shows any wear from age, further the dial is free of any cracks or hairlines which are very common for Stella dials. The calendar discs have aged to a off-white color and the print is showing beautiful serifs on letters and numbers. This 18048 is one hell of a watch and will guaranteed catch some attention wherever it will appear. The color of this dial is one of the best colors on Stella dials we have had so far. These were reserved for Day Date and some ladies references and we believe they have been produced up to the early 1990s. In the 1970s the world wasn't ready for these vibrant, loud and bold colors but for sure we are today. Stella dials come in a wide range of colors including Oxblood, Blue, Green, Turquoise, Peach, Seafoam, Red, Orange, Lilac and Yellow. These colors can vary today because of different reasons. One is that the lacquer for each dial was mixed separately by hand so was different at the time of the production, the other is that over the years some dials have aged to different hues because of temperatures, humidity, UV impact and other reasons. When assessing the rarity and value of Stella dials, there are two main drivers, one is the color of the dial and one is the metal of the watch the dial is cased in. Assuming that approximately 70% of all Day Dates are produced in Yellow gold, we can only imagine how few examples in white metals have been produced. As a consequence it is safe to say that special dials for white gold are rare and in the case of Stella dials, extremely rare.  The here offered watch is a super sharp and mint white gold reference 18239 from 1989 in really astonishing condition. The dial is an original and stunning Red Stella dial with diamond and baguette markers. We have louped the dial very carefully and the best word to describe the condition is flawless. The reference 1530 was developed during the Quartz crisis in the 1970s when affordable Quartz watches were taking the market by storm and shaking up the Swiss watch industry. The Rolex labs were already developing a new Quartz movement and it took more than 5 years to complete it and this historically important reference 1530 already had the case and bracelet of the future Oysterquartz that was supposed to be launched in 1977. The history of the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Ref. 1530 is indeed a fascinating chapter in the brand's evolution. The fact that Rolex was eager to introduce the angular case and integrated bracelet before the quartz movement was ready speaks to their commitment to innovation and design. The decision to use a mechanical movement in the Ref. 1530 while waiting for the quartz technology to mature was a clever move, allowing Rolex to gauge interest and showcase their new case design. This strategy not only provided a glimpse into what was to come but also created a unique collector's piece. Those are the ones produced in serial production and fairly small numbers over certain eras so that we can expect to see them around if you are looking in the right places. But there is another category of dials Rolex made for Day Dates which are not only rare but so rare that you might not be able to find a single piece for sale. We know of a few examples in residing in sophisticated collections but there isn't anything out there. This impeccable 1803 in pink gold is such a watch. The dial is a silver Guilloche with a beautiful geometric pattern. This dial appeared a few times at auction over the last decade however mainly bearing Arabic Hindi numerals but with baton indexes this is only the third example we came across and the second example we purchased. It is even possible that the version without the Arabic Hindi numerals is even rarer. The correctly T Swiss T dial is housed in a pink gold case from the 1.6m serial number range as this is where most appeared in. The dial is in beautiful unrestored condition and changes hues depending on lighting. The case and bracelet are in mint condition showing only very light wear from age. The lugs remain healthy and well defined with clear case numbers. There aren't many Guilloche dials in the Rolex range, if we had to guess, the number would be 5 or 6. These very rarely appear on the market and in our opinion represent the rarest or the rarest dials in the Day Date range. The here offered watch is a super nice and white gold reference 1803 from 1973 in really astonishing condition. The dial is an original and stunning Red Stella Pie Pan dial with diamond and baguette markers.  The Sunset red color, paired with the white gold watch is a winner. In the 5-digit era from 1978-1999 Rolex never produced any examples in rose gold so we will ignore those as well for now.  The remaining are in white gold and platinum. The Bark (1807) finish was already introduced in the 1970s and together with the Florentine (1811) and Morellis (1806) were the three models which bear factory case and bracelet decorations. In the later sapphire crystal era then the 1811 and 1806 finish was discontinued and only the Bark (18078 and 18249) was available. The Bark finished references were not produced in big numbers and for sure become much rarer in white gold.
