Reverso by Cartier
Cartier in the 1930s offered a watch that could flip the case, the so-called Cabriolet was only made for a short time and in small numbers, we couldn’t find one today if we wanted to but we have seen it on pictures. The successor of that watch is a more known model today, the Basculante, a watch that could also flip the case but in a different way. In the 1970s Cartier launched the Tank Reverso that followed the case mechanism of JLC, the inside case was held by bearings that click in or release the case to be flipped around.
The Cartier Reverso was made in very few configurations, in white and yellow gold and with one or two dials. The watch offered here is in yellow gold and is a single dial watch. The iconic white Roman dial at 6 o'clock is signed Paris as it was retailed by Cartier's french arm. The dial condition is very good, not showing any spidering like seen on many Cartier Tanks.
The case is well kept, showing a crisp hallmark and fully preserved case numbers. The Cartier deployant clasp is period correct and in very good condition.
The Cartier Reverso is a very rare watch due to its rare mechanism and has a very attractive size, it is a very coveted and popular model and collectors appreciate it a lot.
