Malachite Mosaic
Cartier hasn't left a stone unturned when creating their master pieces, the quality, the meticulous care for craftsmanship is second to none. No wonder the brand was a trusted supplier to many Royalties and important personalities in the past centuries. The maison never missed to surprise their audience with the use of exotic materials, outstanding precious materials that were incorporated in their creations.
The early 1900s gave birth to an icon, the Cartier Tank that, in the course of the last century evolved into an array of models which until today, carry a historical importance and have become the backbone of the brands DNA. The watch presented here is an extremely rare and beautiful version of the Tank. Featuring a very heavy and solid stepped cushion style case this watch is very different from conventional commercial models. The case wears fairly large due to its thickness, the case back shows a deep hallmark and crisp numbers. The lugs being extremely short and positioned rather under the case give the feeling that the strap is installed right to the case.
The dial is an absolute master piece. It is compiled of square patches of malachite stone that are installed in opposing directions to create a fantastic Mosaic look. The colors are rich green with the natural veins creating a superb look. The Dauphine hands are in excellent condition, the Cartier signature crisp and fully intact.
The watch comes on a period Cartier deployment clasp and a almost golden strap to create a beautiful contract to the dial.
We have never seen anything like it, nor have we found any other examples bearing the same reference. This incredible rare Cartier watch from the 1960s is a marvel of craftsmanship and will be a feast for the discerning collector.
