White Gold - The Datejust was launched in the mid 1940s and became an immediate icon, to date it seems to be the most ever sold Rolex watch. It is usually considered as the entry level watch at Rolex however there are some extremely rare references out there. The 16019 is one of them which was launched in 1978 and is completely made of 18K white gold. . As the successor of the iconic 1601 Datejust the 16019 had an upgraded movement with quickset date, sapphire crystal and a new more solid case. The thought of a Datejust in white gold has a bizarre taste, its a watch that just looks like a steel watch but is much more expensive. With a president bracelet those who know know, otherwise a very stealth watch. The 1601 was made in very small numbers as it seems to have been not very successful due to the big price difference to steel. Now with the 16019 I believe things became even more extreme as it seems Rolex hardly produced these because of the market response. The official production period was about 10 years but we could only see examples from 1978 to 1985. If you google the 16019 you will see maybe 20-30 examples if that. It might be one of the rarest Datejust references out there. Well, the good part is that we have this very example for sale right now and it comes with a very very special dial, the Burl Wood dial with Silver print and long minute indexes. Probably the rarest wood dial on Sapphire crystal; references. The watch is in overall excellent condition with a sharp case, tight bracelet and a mint condition dial that comes with the original hands. This configuration is just wow and the condition makes it even look better on the wrist. Here's a chance to own a ultra rare 16019 Datejust with probably one of the best dials made for the reference.

Brief History

Rolex Datejust

Released in 1945 to celebrate the brand’s 40th anniversary, the Datejust was the first automatic chronometer wristwatch to indicate the date through a window on the dial. The Datejust is characterized by its date window under the ‘cyclops’ window. Iconic vintage Datejusts were made in 36mm case diameter, with a range of steel and precious metal versions.
