Rubellite
Rolex hasn’t left a stone unturned when it comes to the selection of materials they used for their dials. One family of dials is the stone dials which categorically includes hard stone, minerals and even semi-precious gem stones like Lapis and Malachite. One not so often seen dial from this family is the Rubellite dial that has a deep burgundy color and shows a satin and smooth finish on the surface. It is not to be mistaken with the Grossular dial that shows a similar color however has a very crystallic surface. The Rubellite dial has a very pure appearance and shows very small and pretty consistent inclusions, a really rich color dial that was used on Daytonas and Day Dates.
We have here a Rolex Day Date 18038 from the late 1980s housing the Rubellite dial. The color of the dial beautifully complements the gold color of the watch giving it a very royal look.
The watch is overall in beautiful vintage condition not showing much wear from age. A beautiful watch that is coveted not only from Stone dial collectors but also loved for its beautiful color.
