Details
The GS61 line was launched in 1968 and the brand used technology from the Astronomical Observatory to refine their movements. The GS61 was designed by Taro Tanaka who followed his geometrical approach for the case design. The surface and angles of the case, the dial, hands and indexes were to be even, geometric and highly polished to ensure perfect light reflection. The 61GS Automatic Hi-Beat movement is considered as one of Seiko's finest and is signed on the rotor. The silver dial is minimalistic but features thin finely facetted indexes with a fine black enamel layer on top, matching the stripe on the bevelled hands. Last not but not least and probably the most interesting part is that the watch was produced for the Japanese Car manufacturer Toyota and features their logo on the dial, something we have not seen before.
