Details
Poor Man's Gold - Very bizarre that the dial on this 1991 Rolex Day Date 18238 is manufactured from Pyrite a mineral that is also referred to as 'Katzengold' or the Poor Man's Gold. The dial is beautiful, a medley of grey and gold tones and accompanied by factory set diamonds. Each dial is unique in its natural organic pattern. The Pyrite doesn't come up much and it is rare when you look for it. In fact this is the first Pyrite Dial Day Date we are offering for sale. The watch is superb mint condition, hardly showing any wear from age. I remember looking for Pyrite when on a school expedition in grammar school in Germany, never did I even imagine seeing the 'Poor Man's Gold" on a Day Date. This watch is presented in a beautiful collector's set with box and papers.
