The early 1970s Oyster Perpetual Date sits in a very comfortable place within the Rolex catalogue — still close to the classic proportions of the 1960s, yet already carrying the refinements that would define the decade. The 31mm “boy’s size” references, like the 6824, have always had a quiet following. Neither strictly sport nor dress, they offer a balance that feels easy on the wrist and increasingly relevant today.

This particular example from 1972 stands out immediately for its condition. The case remains exceptionally well preserved, with sharp edges and very little sign of wear — something that is not easy to come by on a watch of this age. The plexiglass crystal and smooth bezel keep the overall look clean and understated, allowing the dial to take center stage.

The slate grey dial is where the watch really comes together. It has a depth that shifts depending on the light, sitting somewhere between subtle and expressive. Combined with the simplicity of the smooth bezel and the warmth of the case, the overall configuration feels very well balanced.
