Porcelain
This Rolex Daytona ref. 16520 stands as one of the most important modern Daytonas produced, in this era and this example is quite simply as good as it gets. Fitted with the highly sought-after “Porcelain” dial, the watch presents itself in outstanding condition throughout. The dial is flawless, with perfectly matching hands, and the overall appearance is sharp, crisp, and incredibly fresh.
Condition is where this Daytona truly separates itself. The case remains unpolished, retaining its original geometry, strong lines, and beautifully defined edges. The bezel is crisp and mint, free from wear or rounding, and the watch is paired with the correct and rare Oyster bracelet featuring matte center links and a plain clasp, exactly as it should be for this reference. The bracelet itself is in exceptional condition, completing a remarkably cohesive and honest example.
Powering the ref. 16520 is one of the most historically significant movements ever used by Rolex: the Zenith El Primero–based caliber 4030. Introduced in 1988, this marked Rolex’s return to automatic Daytona's after decades of manual-wind production. Rolex extensively reworked the original El Primero, reducing its beat rate, modifying over half of its components, and elevating it to Rolex’s own standards of reliability and precision. The result is a movement that blends high-frequency chronograph heritage with Rolex’s famously robust engineering.
This watch is offered with its original boxes and booklets; the original warranty certificate is sadly no longer present. That said, examples of this caliber, originality, and condition are becoming increasingly difficult to find. A truly majestic Daytona — one that captures the golden era of the automatic chronograph and rewards those who value purity, condition, and lasting significance. For those who know and want to own the best.
