The Rolex Submariner 5512 has always been a special reference in the Submariner line-up. Though the reference has been produced over a span of 20 years between 1958 and 1978 the number of the COSC no Date Submariner you find is not high. The early 5512s were 2-liners and did not bear the COSC certification, this changed with the introduction of the 4-liner dials. The early matte 5512 was launched in 1967 with a meter first 4-liner dial and went out of the production in 1978 with the Maxi dial version. This very example is a early 2.7m serial dating the case to 1971 and bears a beautifully patina'd and excellent condition later Maxi MK1 (aka Maxi King) dial which in some cases was the service replacement from Rolex for the early matte 5512s. The gunmetal grey faded kissing 40 bezel insert harmonizes perfectly with the patina on the dial and hands and almost has a monochrome sepia color.

Brief History

Rolex Submariner

Released in 1954 at the Basel Watch Fair, the Submariner was the first watch to be water-resistant to 100m. The most recognizable watch in the Rolex line-up. The Submariner is characterized by its iconic black dial and diving bezel. A tool watch with a strong Rolex DNA, the Submariner is not only the most iconic Rolex, but probably the most iconic watch of all time.
