King Midas 4315 with ‘Midas’ signed dial
The Rolex King Midas occupies a unique place in the brand’s history. Originally introduced in the early 1960s as part of an exclusive and ultra-limited run, the model was designed by Gérald Genta and stood apart from anything else Rolex was producing at the time. With its asymmetrical case inspired by ancient Greek architecture and its unmistakable weight and presence, the King Midas was the most expensive Rolex of its era and represented the brand at its most daring and avant-garde.
Within the King Midas family, a small number of references were produced in yellow and white gold, with subtle differences in case and bracelet design across the series. The reference 4315 belongs to the original lineage of Midas watches, and examples in white gold are among the rarest. Even more unusual is the presence of a silver dial signed “Midas,” a striking detail that enhances the exclusivity of this already limited-production watch. As history has proven, Rolex often used earlier parts for their production.
The present example is offered in excellent condition. The white gold case retains its sharp edges and strong definition, while the bracelet remains at full length, an exceptionally rare feature as most pieces have been shortened over the decades. The dial presents beautifully, with the distinctive Midas signature crisp and well-defined. Together, these elements place the watch among the finest surviving examples of its type.
The market for King Midas watches has experienced a sharp rise in recent years, with demand outpacing supply as collectors recognize their significance and rarity. White gold references, in particular, are almost never seen for sale today. As such, this Ref. 4315 represents not only a fascinating piece of Rolex history but also an outstanding value proposition in the current market, combining rarity, condition, and collectability in one highly distinctive package.
