The Midas Touch
The Rolex King Midas reference 4315 sits within one of Rolex’s more unusual chapters. First introduced in 1961 and designed by Gérald Genta, the King Midas was unlike anything else the brand was producing — asymmetrical, heavy and entirely focused on gold. By the mid to late 1970s, the model evolved into references like the 4315, refining the design while keeping its original identity intact. After the reference 9630 and 3580 the 4315 represents the third generation of the iconic King Midas.
The 4315 keeps all the defining elements of the Midas. The angular, architectural case flows directly into the integrated bracelet, with the crown positioned on the left side — please note here that there are examples that have a right-side crown, we strongly believe that this was an option that was offfered after clients requested it.. The surfaces are broad and flat, giving the watch a strong visual presence despite its relatively compact dimensions. It is less about traditional proportions and more about shape and weight.
Executed in solid yellow gold, the watch has a very particular feel on the wrist. The Midas was known for being one of the heaviest Rolex models of its time, with a level of gold content that was unusual even for the brand. The bracelet, case and clasp form one continuous piece, making it wear more like a gold object than a conventional watch.
As correct for the 4315 the dial is signed Cellini, however we have seen very few examples of the 4315 that carry the Midas signature on the dial suggesting that these could have been leftover dials at the factory which had been used for the third generation. The dial remains simple, allowing the case and bracelet to define the watch.
The King Midas has gained incredibly strong demand over the past couple of years and in particularly since earlier 2026 - being the reason for extremely low availability and increasing prices on the market. A very strong collectible oh and it feels amazing on the wrist.
