Grossular      -      Stone dials are mostly found on precious metal watches and in particular on Day Date references. They are rare and depending on the stone itself, but also depending on the metal they are encased in. Very few Stone dials left the factory on Daytonas, earliest seen in the Zenith Daytonas and later on 6 digit Daytona references. The Daytona which is widely known to have been delivered with a Stone dial is the 116519 with Sodalite dial. Another dial from the same family is the Grossular dial, sometimes also referred to the Rubellite dial which can be seen on the currently offered watch. The hard stone has an almost burgundy color and is specked with natural inclusions giving the dial some fire in form of sparkles. The silver print on the dial blends nicely with the white metal case. These don't come up much, even compared with its brother Sodalite, it is much much rarer. This great example of a white gold Daytona with a mint Grossular dial is a must for the experienced Daytona collector and a feast on the wrist.

Brief History

Rolex Daytona

The iconic ‘Daytona’ appeared on the Rolex Oyster Chronograph in 1965, in honor of the famed Florida racetrack.

The Daytona is characterized by its Chronograph function with the ‘Units Per Hour’ tachymeter bezel, which allows Miles Per Hour readings, along with its triple-register chronograph dial layout.
