UAE Armed Forces Full Set
Throughout its history, the UAE has commissioned a considerable number of custom dials for watches intended as gifts to military officials, foreign dignitaries and guests of state. Among these are the Air Force, Ministry of Defence and UAE Armed Forces dials, the latter being, in our opinion, one of the most beautiful logo dials issued for the UAE.
This 1984 Rolex Oyster Precision Date Ref. 6694 features a 34mm stainless steel case and a manually wound movement. Its correct period silver dial bears the distinctive UAE Armed Forces emblem, positioned between the centre of the dial and the 6 o’clock marker.
Preserved in beautifully crisp condition, this watch appears to have been worn only occasionally. The colourful emblem stands out beautifully against the otherwise monochromatic appearance of the watch. Interestingly, most stainless steel Rolex watches produced with Middle Eastern logos featured gold-coloured hour markers, hands and coronets to give them a more luxurious appearance.
These watches were originally commissioned by the UAE government and presented to members of the Armed Forces, foreign dignitaries, state officials and other important individuals. This particular example is believed to have been part of an excess order that eventually found its way back to the authorised Rolex retailer Mohammed Rasoul Khoury in Abu Dhabi, where it was subsequently sold to a private customer.
Unlike watches presented directly by the Armed Forces, which, according to accounts from some original owners' families, were often gifted without accompanying paperwork, those sold through the retailer were issued with warranty certificates.
This beautiful example is accompanied by its original warranty certificate and box, a combination that rarely comes to market with these military logo watches.
