1975 Rolex Datejust White Gold Lapis Dial Ref. 1601

White Gold Lapis       - Apart from experimenting with colors, Rolex has also, throughout its history, experimented with exotic materials for its dials. Stella and wood dials are only few of the very popular dial materials but one unique material that Rolex has used quite a lot with is stone. Over the years, Rolex has produced dials with a large number of different stone types e.g. Lapis, Onyx, Jasper etc. Some are still in production, whilst some have been discontinued many years ago, and thus only been produced in very limited numbers. Generally it can be said that all Stone dials are pretty rare however that rarity drastically increases when they appear in white metal watches. The majority of Stone dials is fitted into Day Date references with sapphire crystals post 1978 but there was a batch in the mid 1970s where some of the Stone dials had been fitted in Datejust models, in particular in the 1601 reference. This is the only non Day Date reference with stone dials. The watch on offer is a 1975 example of the 1601 reference. The case is neat and clean, doesn't show much wear from age. it houses a mint condition original Lapis dial. The flawless dial is beautiful in color and pattern, has a night blue hue contrasting beautifully with the white gold case. Another feature is the silver print which stands out.
