The Rolex GMT-Master first appeared in 1954 as a professional tool watch designed for pilots navigating multiple time zones. Over the decades, it has evolved into one of Rolex’s most iconic sports models, admired far beyond the cockpit for its unmistakable design and enduring versatility.

In 1979, Rolex introduced the reference 16750, the last true vintage GMT-Master. It featured a major technical upgrade with the Caliber 3075 movement, offering a quicker 28,800 vph beat rate and the convenience of a quickset date. Produced only until 1987, the 16750 had a much shorter run than its predecessor, the legendary 1675, which spanned over 20 years.

The 16750 was offered with two distinct dial types: the early matte dial with large painted Tritium plots (1979–84) and the later glossy dial with applied white-gold surrounds (1984–87). Collectors particularly prize the matte version for its pure vintage aesthetic and resemblance to the earlier 1675, while retaining the upgraded movement.

This example from 1982 is in exceptional condition. The case remains unpolished, with sharp bevels on the lugs, crisp edges, and a well-preserved Oyster bracelet showing factory finish throughout. The Pepsi bezel insert displays vibrant blue with a warm rosy-pink fade on the red half — a characteristic vintage charm. Most importantly, the matte dial is mint, with original Tritium lume on the plots and hands that have aged beautifully to a rich vanilla tone.
