Description
Some Dunhill lighters deserve a place on the desk. This English table lighter from the 1940s has a striking combination of polished silver-plated metal and green shagreen, whose natural, pebbled surface gives each panel its own character. Shagreen is a textured hide, often made from stingray skin; the exact species used for this piece has not been identified.
The lift-arm mechanism draws on Dunhill’s famous Unique lighter, developed for one-handed use. Here, that clever design becomes a substantial table piece, with enough weight and presence to enjoy even when it is at rest. A particularly attractive find for a collector of Dunhill lighters or vintage desk accessories.
