The Beyer
Few names are as closely associated with Rolex as Beyer Chronometre of Zurich. Established in 1760, Beyer is the world's oldest watch retailer and enjoyed one of Rolex's longest and most important retail partnerships. Watches bearing both the Rolex signature and the Beyer name were supplied exclusively through the Zurich retailer, making these double-signed dials considerably scarcer than their standard counterparts. Today, they are appreciated not only for their rarity but also for the tangible link they provide to one of the most respected names in Swiss horology.
This reference is distinguished by its beautifully preserved champagne dial, carrying the coveted Rolex / Beyer double signature. Over the decades, the outer edge of the dial has developed a soft, even vignette that gently transitions towards the centre, creating an attractive ombré effect. Rather than detracting from the watch, this natural ageing gives the dial additional depth and individuality, ensuring that no other example will age in quite the same way. The result is a warm, balanced appearance that complements the understated elegance of the design.
The condition of the watch is equally pleasing. The case remains exceptionally strong, retaining well-proportioned lugs and crisp lines throughout, while the smooth bezel is sharp and well defined, preserving the refined profile that characterises this reference. Together with the beautifully aged dial, the overall presentation reflects a watch that has been carefully preserved over the course of its life.
Double-signed Rolex watches have long held a special place among collectors, representing a fascinating chapter from a time when prestigious retailers were permitted to place their own name alongside the Rolex crown. Beyer was one of the most prominent of these retailers, and examples bearing its signature continue to attract considerable interest. Combining a desirable retailer signature, an exceptionally well-preserved case and a dial that has developed a beautiful natural vignette over time, this watch offers exactly the kind of originality and character that collectors seek in vintage Rolex.
