A Different Side of Rolex – The Cellini Blue Vignette
The Rolex Cellini collection of the 1970s and 1980s offers a fascinating look at the more creative side of Rolex. Away from the familiar Oyster models, the brand experimented with unusual case shapes, decorative finishes and some beautiful dial colors, resulting in watches that look quite different from what we typically associate with Rolex today.
This Ref. 4084 from 1981 is a lovely example, featuring a striking blue Vignette dial that gradually changes from a vibrant blue in the center to an almost black shade towards the edges. The rich colors work particularly well with the 18K white gold tonneau-shaped case, while the unusual decorative bezel adds a touch of vintage elegance. Measuring 31 mm, the watch has a distinctive presence on the wrist thanks to its elongated case shape.
Our example is preserved in very nice vintage condition, with the original decorative finish remaining intact, clear engravings on the case back and its original Rolex crown. It is fitted with a black leather strap and Rolex pin buckle.
An elegant and slightly unconventional vintage Rolex, combining an unusual case design with one of the most attractive dial finishes of the period. A wonderful alternative to the more familiar Rolex classics.
