The Royal Oak Quartz
While the Royal Oak is most often associated with the reference 5402, Audemars Piguet's early quartz models have quietly developed a following of their own. Introduced during the years of the Quartz Crisis, references such as the 6005BC demonstrate that the manufacture remained committed to the design principles established by Gérald Genta while embracing the changing technology of the era. Produced in 18k white gold, the 6005BC is a particularly uncommon variant, combining the unmistakable Royal Oak silhouette with the weight and refinement of a precious metal case and bracelet.
Like every early Royal Oak, the appeal lies in the details. The sharply faceted case, exposed bezel screws and beautifully integrated bracelet are all unmistakably Gérald Genta, while the white gold construction gives the watch a discreet presence that reveals itself only when worn. The silver diamond-set dial adds just the right amount of elegance without distracting from the clean architectural lines that have defined the Royal Oak for more than fifty years.
Among collectors of integrated bracelet watches, the 6005BC occupies an interesting position. Produced during one of the most transformative periods in Swiss watchmaking, it belongs to a small group of watches that captured the spirit of the era while remaining true to the identity of their respective manufactures. Together with pieces such as the Patek Philippe Nautellipse and Vacheron Constantin 222 Quartz, it represents a chapter in watchmaking that has become increasingly appreciated as collectors look beyond the better-known references.
This example dates to 1984 and is presented with its original vintage Audemars Piguet presentation box together with an Extract from the Archives, confirming its production and adding further confidence in its originality. Preserved in excellent overall condition, it remains a highly attractive example of one of the rarer early white gold Royal Oaks. Combining Gérald Genta's timeless design with the quality of Audemars Piguet's precious metal craftsmanship, the reference 6005BC has become an increasingly collectible watch and one that offers exceptional wrist presence despite its elegant proportions.
