The Navy Submariner
The Submariner reference 16610 is one of the most popular Submariners and was produced from 1988 until 2010 when it was replaced by the 116610 with a completely new configuration making this the last Date Submariner with original dimensions. The example we have here is lovely with a strong and well defined case and overall great conditions. But what makes this very watch stand out are two points. One is that this is one of the early examples featuring the sought after Tritium dial marked at 6 with SWISS - T<25. The color of the Tritium luminous is very whitish and consistent with the original hands. But there is more, the really special feature is the bezel insert which has aged from black to a very glossy Navy color. That is something we don't see very often. Last but not least this 16610 comes with original Warranty, punched, dated and stamped by the retailer in Honolulu, Hawaii.
|Case||Excellent case that has just been lightly polished. The lugs remain straight and even with well defined edges and clear numbers. The black insert has aged to a glossy Navy color and is only showing light wear from age|
|Bracelet / Strap||The 93150 Oyster bracelet has 12 links and is showing some stretch from age. The clasp is signed with a 1994 date code|
|Dial||Excellent black glossy Tritium dial in pristine condition. The more whitish lumes are original and matching with the original hands|
|Papers||Punched, dated and stamped Warranty Certificate from Hawaii
Released in 1954 at the Basel Watch Fair, the Submariner was the first watch to be water-resistant to 100m. The most recognizable watch in the Rolex line-up. The Submariner is characterized by its iconic black dial and diving bezel. A tool watch with a strong Rolex DNA, the Submariner is not only the most iconic Rolex, but probably the most iconic watch of all time.
