The Rolex Daytona has always been and will always remain the King of the Sports models. The initially racing inspired Chronograph is still the top model of the line-up. It was in 1987 that Rolex introduced the first self winding Chronograph watch and at that time was not able to manufacture an in-house movement for it. It was fitted with a modified Zenith El Primero movement and today is nicknamed as 'Zenith Daytona'. The Zenith Daytona has become an icon by itself and is very popular among collectors and purists. It has been produced in multiple variants with subtle but important differences. The offered example is a U Series from 1997 which marks also the last series produced with a Tritium dial before Rolex switched to Luminova for the remaining U, A and P series. The watch is preserved in excellent condition and doesn't show much overall wear. The crispness of the case is noticeable on the wrist, making it so much more attractive then when with a lot of wear. The watch doesn't seem to have been worn much, not only because of the tight bracelet but because of its overall strong condition. This watch is presented with punched papers and box, a great daily wearer which we still consider as Vintage.

Brief History

Rolex Daytona

The iconic ‘Daytona’ appeared on the Rolex Oyster Chronograph in 1965, in honor of the famed Florida racetrack.

The Daytona is characterized by its Chronograph function with the ‘Units Per Hour’ tachymeter bezel, which allows Miles Per Hour readings, along with its triple-register chronograph dial layout.
