Details
The 5065 Jumbo - as opposed to the Nautilus, designed by legend Gerald Genta, the Aquanaut was an in-house design by Patek Philippe and had its debut in 1998. After some experimental references in smaller case sizes the 5065 reference, the Jumbo, was the largest model from the first Aquanaut generation and had a 38mm case size. The dial, also called 'Grenade' dial was a first with the introduction of the Aquanaut in 1998 and lets you assume there was some military affiliation but this remains unclear. What is clear that this newly introduced Sports watch was a success and is amongst the most popular models in the collection. This 5065 is overall in mint condition bearing a strong case showing beautiful factory finishing. The bracelet is a master piece of design too and is nothing Patek has ever done before. The bracelet has a fully polished finish and the links are like bricks alligned in an interesting geometrical way. This watch, as the Certificate of Origin confirm was delivered on a Tropic Strap with deployment clasp only, however the previous owner was able to buy a brand new stainless steel bracelet from Patek Philippe for this 5065 last year which is still in close to new condition and part of the offered full set with boxes, and all papers.
