Description
One mystery in our line of business is that we sometimes come across items that we have not seen before from brands we have never heard, and we know nothing about them, but we don’t just look away. Being receptive for new information, knowledge and brands is essential to enrichen the knowledge and widening the horizon to what was out there in the good old years.
Now we are not really talking 70s or 80s, we are talking 1930s!. Browsing antique clocks on the original Miami Beach Antique show we spotted this clock on a dealer's shelf. It caught our eyes so imminently and we fell in love. Let us explain.
We are looking at a desk clock made of gilt brass in shape of a half circle. The dial is in gilt brass as well and bears the most beautiful blown up Art Deco numerals that are applied in black enamel. The alignment of the numerals is matched with the shape of the clock which gives it a very special and interesting look. at 12 o clock we find the maker's signature Botto who was located in Florence, Italy. At 6 o clock we find another sub dial displaying 12 hours which can be set with a separate knob for the alarm. The soft ticking of the clock is very satisfying and we absolutely love it. At the lower part of the case we find an engraving 11 March 1931 which we would have never expected.
An absolutely captivating timepiece that has an impressive presence, wherever you may place it.
